ARTIST BIO
Zaan Claassens is a contemporary fine artist whose work explores the interplay of water, light, and emotional resonance. Raised in Southern Africa and shaped by life across multiple continents, her artistic voice carries an international sensibility rooted in nature, movement, and reflection. She lives and paints on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
Her luminous oil paintings are collected internationally, from Canada and the United States to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, and aboard luxury vessels in the Galápagos. Working at an architectural scale, she builds each painting through a meticulous process, preparing the canvas to receive light, hold it, and release it back into the space. The result is work that shifts and deepens with changing light, rewarding sustained engagement over time.
Collectors describe her paintings as "alive with light," "deeply calming," and "emotionally elevating." Whether creating a large-scale commission or a personal work, Zaan creates art designed to transform how a space is experienced, day after day, season after season.
Her art is, in her own words, "a celebration of life."
